The change comes during a robust recruitment campaign by Timmins Police Service to meet community demand.

“The announcement from the Solicitor General and the Province of Ontario this morning is a great indication of the advocacy of boards and police chiefs across the province, underscoring the importance of removing another barrier to policing,” said Kraymr Grenke, chairman of the board.

“As our board had made the prior commitment to reimburse the costs of OPC, this investment by the province will help policing across Ontario thrive and increase the ranks of police services as they look to create safer communities.

“The Timmins Police Services Board looks forward to this year’s recruits succeed through this investment and join the ranks of the Timmins Police Service.”

The changes implemented by the provincial government will help eliminate prior barriers to policing, which means easier access for residents considering a career in policing and greater potential to attract candidates to the Timmins Police Service.

“Today’s announcement from the Ontario Government will assist Ontario policing agencies in meeting current and future community safety demands,” said Police Chief Dan Foy.
