The Fire Safe Council of Siskiyou County has received a massive wildfire defense grant from the US Forest Service.

The grant, which comes out to exactly $9,997,998, will go towards the "Siskiyou County Home Assessment, Defensible Space, and Education Project." The project entails home assessment, home hardening, and defensible space work for roughly 500 Siskiyou County homes. They say the grant will also help reduce fuels for approximately 300 acres surrounding high-risk communities.

This is the second largest award offered by the US Forest Service, according to the Fire Safe Council. The council had applied for the grant with the assistance of Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), which had previously helped the council complete numerous defensible space projects throughout the county.
