In this presentation, Jamie will talk through the 2018 trends for software development. We will also cover the future of GitHub and speak to our priorities for the year. By the end, you will have an understanding of the future of software development practices and Github's product roadmap.

In this presentation, Brent will review thoughts on how to best approach your DevOps Journey. You will be introduced to the 4 DevOps maturity quadrants as a model for framing your DevOps transformation. You will look at some common and preferred adoption patterns using the Quadrants and he will use a case study of a fortune 500 financial services company to show how you can use the Quadrants to measure maturity and map your DevOps Journey

Get to know how the Department of Homeland Security’s USCIS division started on their journey towards a true DevOps culture, enabled by the adoption of an enterprise container platform. Hear how heads of Development, Operations, and Security were able to get a deeper perspective from each discipline on how they viewed and embarked upon their goal of modernizing the USCIS culture, its people, its processes, and its tools to better meet the mission at DHS. You’ll learn about where they began, challenges faced, successes realized, and the strategies they used to overcome common organizational hurdles in the process towards container adoption and a DevOps culture.

Speakers:

Robert D. Brown, Division Chief - Dept. of Homeland Security, US Citizen and Immigration Services

Robert is a DHS USCIS Branch Chief within SDD OIT modernizing applications and services. Previously a Cloud Solutions Developer with Booz Allen Hamilton with 14 years of experience providing technical, managerial and business development solutions to the IT industry --- Robert has focused on digital transformation and modernization working on Agile and DevSecOps Management Instructions to creating CI/CD multi-tenant platforms. Robert has a thorough understanding of IT and business, leading to successful experiences in completing large-scale IT deployments from the initial corporate IT strategy and vision to design, build and maintenance. He also has expertise in auditing, directing and managing corporate IT strategies for small to large sized commercial businesses. Additionally, Robert has a strong background in healthcare, scientific research, and biomedical industries.

Jamie Jones, Principal Architect - GitHub

As GitHub's Government and Regulated Industry Solutions Lead, Jamie works with government agencies to improve the way they build software. With more than a decade of experience with the US Federal Government, he helps agencies evolve their development processes through agile transformation, Innersource, open source, and leaving Subversion behind for good.

Jamie also writes way too much Javascript for his own good and in a past life automated operational environments with shell scripts.

Brent McConnell, Solution Architect - CloudBees

Brent is currently a Solution Architect for CloudBees, where he helps customers with Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and DevOps best practices. Prior to CloudBees, Brent worked at CollabNet, Novell, and Hewlett Packard primarily in Engineering and Professional services roles. His roots are in Linux system engineering, but his primary job has always been learning new technologies and applying that knowledge to solving unique problems.
