Viasat expects to deliver improved inflight connectivity to its business aviation customers from early 2024. This “expanded range of service options,” announced at NBAA 2023 in Las Vegas, will be available across a range of antenna terminal hardware, including Viasat’s GAT-5510 terminal, as well as three planned Jet ConneX terminals initially designed for the GX Aviation constellation from Inmarsat.
We’re excited about the positive impact that Viasat’s acquisition of Inmarsat will deliver to our business aviation customers. The harmonization of our Ka-band services is a prime example of what can be achieved by bringing the best of both companies together. – Kai Tang, Head of Business Aviation, Viasat
Viasat’s GAT-5510 is expected to support the updated service options in early 2024. The third party hardware covered by the announcement includes the Plane Simple Ka-band solution from Satcom Direct, Orbit’s AirTRx30 and Honeywell‘s JetWave X solutions. Viasat says the improved offerings will be available on this next-gen partner JX hardware “upon entry-into-service” though exactly what that covers is rather more vague.
New subscription plans (including pay by the hour, possibly exclusively via Satcom Direct) appear to be part of the proposition. And, eventually, access to more satellite capacity and redundancy than ever before.
