Does this experiment provide students the opportunity to follow their passion without going into poverty? Does it give Humanities’ scientists a chance to use their research to reach a wider audience and have an impact on society? That is what this pilot is all about.
UvA Startup Challenge
As part of the opening, ten student teams will pitch their startup idea during the FGw pre-selection round of the UvA Startup Challenge. The winner will take home €1000 and a spot for the UvA-wide final of the Startup Challenge in 2017. Here, the winning team will receive an additional €5000, useful seed money for a startup company! The jury members are Thijs de Jong (Westwijs Huiswerkbegeleiding), Hans Brouwer (Massive Music) & Manon Becher (Starters4communities).

Prior to the pitches, established scientists and alumni entrepreneurs discuss the value of academic Venture Labs and the future of the university. The panel consists of Erik Boer (ACE Venture Lab), Arianna Betti (Philosophy dept. UvA), Jan Simons (Media Studies dept. UvA).
