UtrechtInc opens Garage, a pre-incubator for impact startups

Startup incubator UtrechtInc opened a new space in their office: the Garage. An entire renovated wing will be used to experiment on solutions that will have an impact on a healthier society. Call it a ‘pre-incubator’, where students, entrepreneurs, corporates and academics co-work to create a startup out of an idea.

Partners like Climate-KIC and several research institutes from Utrecht will host their programmes here. If an idea becomes viable and turns into a solid business, it can easily flow to the UtrechtInc incubator.

Back in October 2015 UtrechtInc together with Utrecht University got a 600.000 euro grant from Lokaal Economisch Fonds Utrecht to rebuild the old glassworks. (Until then, that big empty space was mainly used for workshops and, of course, games of ping pong).

The Garage consists of several (co-)working spaces and is also rentable for events, hackathons, trainings, workshops and meetings. The name ‘Garage’ is a hint to the birthplace of companies like Apple, HP and Amazon.

One of the first initiatives to enter the new wing is Redgrasp, which improves the readability of healthcare protocols.

If you’re interested, you can apply here (free office space this July and August)!
