WPS completes equity, diversity, and inclusivity recommendations

The Windsor Police Service has completed all 37 recommendations from the Ontario Civilian Police Commission to improve inclusivity and diversity within the force.

The recommendations were made in 2020 following complaints of a toxic work environment, bullying, and unfair hiring and promotion practices.

"A lot of the changes involved looking deep into our organization in terms of equity, diversity, and inclusivity and making sure that the policies that we have in place, and the policies drive behaviours in our organization, so making sure those policies reflect what should be an appropriate EDI strategy for the whole organization," said Acting Chief Jason Bellaire.

Most of the recommendations, 26 out of 37, had been implemented within the year time-frame set out by the OCPC.

A full report will be published shortly.
