The best thing about being on Jason Vana's list is unsubscribing. 💡 For anyone with an email list, it's a lesson in how to get it right... Somehow I managed to subscribe to Jason's list on both my personal and business accounts. I read the emails on one, and politely delete the duplicates. Last week I noticed an email pop into my inbox: "Sorry to see you go." Where? I never unsubscribed... *curiously opens email* What? My subscription was deleted automatically? Yes, turns out that Jason realizes that if you're relentlessly sending emails that aren't getting opened, chances are the recipient isn't interested. And you're probably annoying them. Who wants to do that? Not Jason, apparently. This is a stroke of genius for any email marketer: ✔ YOU INCREASE LIKEABILITY BY 1000% Becoming an ex-prospect may only be temporary. And now Jason's shown how much he cares, I like him much more. It's a long-term play... ✔ YOU STAND OUT I have plenty of emails that get trashed on arrival. No one else has done this. Ever. ✔ YOU BUILD YOUR BRAND In the 'show don't tell' kinda way. You say you care about your customers? Don't talk about it. Be about it. This is a fantastic example. 👒 Hats off to Jason for this example of brilliant marketing! Not sure if I agree. Sometimes I dont open emails but I know they are there if I need them 🙈

Many companies send you an email asking if you’d like to unsubscribe before removing. And they make it to be your decision, not theirs. And this is not about building a relationship with a prospect as much as about improving their open rate.

I like this and it also adds a little bit of pressure; 'I don't want to be deleted off this list - I better make sure I open the email'. Of course, you need to make sure your content hits the spot. This only works if people care about your email 👀

As someone who does email marketing alot, I totally preach and support this. 👏🏻 Always give your subscribers an easy way to unsubscribe.. while also cleaning your list automatically from time to time.

This is also a strategy to increase the chances that these emails end up in your primary inbox (and not in Gmail's "promotions" box, or in spam). But very considerate as well, as you mention.

Really great tactic to execute on, I hate sending emails to people who aren't opening them. Another (hidden) result of this is that you are going to have far higher open rates and far lower bounce rates, meaning your emails will be far less likely to be marked as spam or promotional by the users email provider.

i recently noticed the same from Morning Brew. I figured they need a way to quantify the number of active readers for the advertisers that advertise in their email news letter.

I would argue that plenty of people/companies send annoying emails even if I am opening them (spoiler alert - I open 99% of emails).
