I'm looking for my next role. I've built technical design and development teams for organizations of all sizes, and I'd like to take my experience somewhere that has challenging problems to solve. If you have any leads or recommendations, let me know.

Never an easy post to write, but Goat will be ceasing operations April 30th, 2024. I want to thank all the people that helped me build Goat over the past 10 years, specifically the staff that worked their tail off building world class digital products, and the many clients that have trusted us in the same time period. We built some incredible things, and as sad as I am, I'm proud of what I built. I'm looking for my next opportunity, hopefully in the Vancouver area so I can be surrounded by fellow humans. I'd love to grab coffee if you can spare a minute! I wrote up a post about it.. mostly as a therapeutic exercise, but if you want to learn more about the why, have a read.

I can't believe I'm having to post this on LinkedIn. Wave HQ was really excited when we moved our payroll services over to them last year, and the support was sure great getting moved over. Since then? It's a disaster. My business has had lots of changes, and trying to get support from the payroll side of the team is like pulling teeth. It's now deadline day for T4's, and the output of what Wave is generating is wrong, and there is no way to change them. You need to talk to their "payroll" support, which you have no access to, and is gatekeeped through their actual support team. What's the response time for the payroll team? Minimum 2 weeks. In October, it was 3 weeks. If you're going to offer a service as sensitive as payroll, you need to be available in 24 hours or less, with real help from the experts that can actually make the changes and have accountability. It's an absolute joke that I can't even speak to the people that can help me, and if my assigned support person is out of office, well, too bad! It's T4 deadline, and I can't get help. I've been trying for months, but I've been pushed aside. I've never had as poor of an experience as this has been, and I can't wait to leave, but until I've wrapped up year end (which they seem to have all the leverage on me), I can't. You should be ashamed Wave HQ. Zahir Khoja David Axler

The start to my web design career was not your standard path. In grade 10, I was in Infotech 11 and immediately got addicted to programming. Visual Basic allowed me to utilize a part of my brain no other teacher was able to trigger. I went down the rabbit hole, and you couldn't get me off my home built (out of scrap parts basically) Pentium III with 128mb of ram. 2Advanced Studios, LLC was the standard, and I recently stumbled across some of their old sites. At the time, I had no idea that their websites would be the catalyst for my career... but was it ever. This interview with one of their founders, Eric Jordan. An incredible dive into his thought process, Adobe Flash and the future of the internet. Worth the listen! https://lnkd.in/gY89ku5j

And this is why the talented people don't even bother to bid on Government work. Must be nice to handshake your way into 25 million of funds when you don't even know the first thing about designing and building an app.

The amount of AI vapourware coming out is insane. It's the same types of companies announcing these products to make their shareholders happy with that little bump in price. There are very few companies doing true transformational work with AI... but many hopping on the backs of the ones doing that meaningful work. It's going to be an interesting 12 months.

I'm already sick of the obvious overuse of AI generated imagery. That's all.

Agreed. Craft CMS is the perfect mix. No spend, no fancy ads, no fancy brand, just a great product that does the job, over and over.
Relationships, not transactions | Digital commerce | Client whisperer | Speaker | Business model tinkerer
This is incredible. Craft CMS, bootstrapped and with not even a fraction of the marketing spend of others on the list, is 7th and closing in on Super Bowl ad Squarespace. Sometimes, a great product does sell itself.

Really proud of our team for the launch of the new Suncrest College website! Tons of great features and innovations built into a build that are typically very prescribed. Suncrest was looking to challenge the status quo when it came to student registration, and our team was up to the task. https://lnkd.in/gmg48dY6 Check it out!
