Philippe Carette will be the new President of Inmarsat‘s Aviation operations from 22 November 2021. He joins the company after eight years at Thales, including the past three as CEO of the Thales InFlyt division.
I look forward to working with [Carette] as a member of Inmarsat’s executive team as we extend our technology leadership and significantly enhance the services we offer to our partners and customers through new initiatives such as ORCHESTRA and ELERA.
– Rajeev Suri, CEO of Inmarsat
Philip Balaam, currently business unit President for aviation, is moving into a new strategy role at Inmarsat, where he will be working with Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Fredrik Gustavsson to reinforce the company’s growing, broad-based commercial momentum.
Carette took over the Thales InFlyt role somewhat unexpectedly, replacing Dominique Giannoni. Once there, however, Carette shepherded InFlyt through implementation of a few big wins.
The company had previously signed Spirit Airlines and Air Canada as customers for its in-flight connectivity solution.
Those implementations came with challenges tied to the antenna system and major delay that Carette had to manage through. Things have improved dramatically since Thales chose to look to outside partners.

A lot of false information in this article. P.Carette never won anything at Thales, nor did he even remotely achieve anything listed in the Inmarsat appointment memo. He ran the company to the ground and got removed overnight by his upper management. Spirit and Air Canada were signed before his tenure. Good luck to all Inmarsat employees… they’re gonna need it.

Indeed, the deals were signed prior to his joining. The original phrasing did not convey that the way it was in my brain as I was typing earlier; I’ve changed it to be more clear on that.
I do agree that much of what the press release highlights is questionable.
