Britain’s favourite ice lolly has been revealed in a new survey.

According to research by YouGov, the most popular ice cream in the UK is a Magnum.

Yes, the chocolate ice cream on a stick has been revealed to be the favourite ice lolly of more than a quarter (28 per cent) of Brits.

However the survey - which assessed the views of nearly 1,000 people - did not specify a particular flavour of Magnum.

The Walls classic came out miles ahead of the rest, with Fab and Solero taking joint second place (eight per cent each), followed by Twister in fourth place (seven per cent) and Feast in fifth (six per cent).

However Magnums were revealed to be more popular with older than younger generations - 42 per cent of those aged 65 or older name it their favourite, compared to just 12 per cent of 18-24 year olds.

In the rather retro selection of ice creams included in the poll, most 18-24 year olds selected “other” as their favourite ice lolly, however Magnums were still the most popular of the types in the study.

Tropical Soleros were found to have cross-generational appeal, while Fabs are more popular with under-50s than older ice cream consumers.

Twisters are more likely to have younger people salivating - they’re the ice cream of choice for 11 per cent of 18-24 year olds and 10 per cent of 25-49 year olds, compared to just two per cent of over-50s.

The survey also highlighted how popular Walls ice creams are, with four of the top five lollies (all except Fabs) made by the company.
