With the vast majority of its fleet grounded and passenger flow slowed to a trickle Singapore Airlines, like so many others, continues to search for new ways to generate revenues. Starting in October the airline will run a trio of ground-based experiences, offering “travelers” the Singapore Airlines experience without ever getting into the sky.
These experiences offer something for everyone – from frequent flyers who miss our world-class in-cabin products and service, to couples and families who want an exclusive dining experience, and parents who are after an enjoyable activity-filled day with their children during the school holidays.
– SIA Chief Executive Officer Mr Goh Choon Phong
No flights to nowhere on Singapore Airlines
Perhaps most notable in the offerings is what the airline is NOT doing. While other carriers across Australasia are flying tour trips to nowhere (and selling them out pretty quickly), Singapore Airlines took a pass on that option. It was part of a comprehensive review, which also considered factors such as the attractiveness of the initiatives to SIA’s customers and members of the public, the environmental implications, and their financial viability. The tour flight concept did not meet those requirements.
An A380 Dining Experience @ Changi
For those looking to climb on board an A380 the carrier will offer a dining on the ground option in late October. Customers can choose their cabin of service and book up to five seats together for a meal on board. The event also includes a tour through the history of the Singapore Airlines uniforms collection and passengers dressed in traditional heritage wear will receive a special gift.
The company will have the inflight entertainment systems on during the meal for those who want to watch a movie while they dine. The KrisShop inflight shopping services will also be open while on the ground.
Dining opportunities are scheduled for 24-25 October. Reservations open from 12 October 2020 on KrisShop.com.
Behind the Scenes with Singapore Airlines
The last two weekends in November will feature exclusive access behind the scenes at the Singapore Airlines training facilities. The basic tour package includes a showcase of uniforms through the airline’s history and what the future of sustainability looks like. The default tour option is, perhaps, a bit basic, but the paid add-ons offer some stellar experiences.
The flight simulators will be opened to the public, as will the wine cellars (though not at the same time!). The company will also offer kids the option to act as cabin crew in business class on the A380, with a souvenir uniform. Finally, the secrets of the “Singapore Girl chignon” look will be shared for those attending the Grooming workshop on offer.
Dipping into the kitchen and cellar with SIA@Home
For those who miss the inflight wine & dine experience but who also don’t want to go to the airport Singapore Airlines will deliver meals at home. Not only can customers get the business class or first class meals, but the company is opening its wine cellars as well. And, if you REALLY want the inflight dining experience, order the All-Inclusive First Class Experience. It includes a First Class meal for two, a bottle of Burgundy red or white wine, a bottle of 2008 Dom Perignon champagne, a 22-piece tableware set which includes Wedgwood dining ware and Lalique crystal ware, and Lalique amenities for two, including sleeper suits.
The dining options include a guide for how to reheat and plate the meals at home. Or, if that’s too much work, a Book-the-Chef option will deliver the food and wine as well as a private chef who will reheat, plate and serve the meal for customers in their homes.
