Short Stories from the Beta
A player in part of the world
they were not familiar with walks up to a Dread Lord Rogue
dressed in black and asks for directions to nearest town. Dread
Lord Rogue snoops his pack and steals 400 gold. Then gives him
directions that lead him to three gazers.
A player is stolen from by a
Adept Rogue. Rather than run away or attack the rogue. He runs up
to the rogue demanding his stuff back. The rogue steals more
stuff then casually strolls across the bridge into Vesper. The
silly player finally attacks the rogue and is killed by guards.
Rogue loots body.
A player tells a known rogue
that under normal circumstances he would kill him, but invites
him to join his army. Then, in the midst of battle, he turns his
back on the rogue. The rogue stabbed him in the back and looted
his foolish body.
A player is attacked by several
PKs. He runs away and finds a traveller dressed in black. He says
he is near death and asks for help. The traveller, who normally
dislikes player-killing, decides to put the poor sop out of his
misery and kills him with a single shot.
A would-be PK attacks a figure
in black because his title reads Expert miner and he is standing
near the Minoc mines. Unfortunately for the PK, the figure had
been practicing mining to cover up his skill in fighting. The
figure loots the would-be PK to pay for more shovels.
Another would-be PK attacks a
player simply because his title read Rogue. Rogue just happened
to be only of slightly less fighting skill than stealing skill.
During the short fight, the rogue steals a bag of reagents from
the PK. The now even more self-righteous PK decides to fight to
the death even though he is loosing badly. The rogue loots the
rest of PKs equipment.
A brand-new beta tester logs on
and starts asking the first person he sees for help even though
the first person is a Dread Lord. The Dread Lord was feeling
charitable and gave him armor, a non-practice weapon, a shield,
and a healing potion. The kindly Dread Lord then led the newbie
out into the forest for his first fight--against a air elemental.
The Dread Lord hid during the fight and looted his donations off
the body.
A person withdraws gold from
the bank in Vesper. It is immediately stolen by a rogue who
deposits the money and runs out the door. Rather than yell,
"Guards" the player chases the rogue out of town. The
rogue turns on the player once outside the guards range and
quickly brings the player to near death. The player runs back
into town and the rogue casually follows him--back to the bank.
There is a lot of shuffling of packbacks and then the player asks
to withdraw 1000 gold. Unfortunately, in his haste to bury the
gold in a deeper pack, he accidently drops the gold on the
ground. The rogue picks it up and deposits it.
A newbie attempts to steal in
town and is killed while carrying all his equipment. Another
rogue in black who sees the incident runs over and gathers up all
the newcomers equipment and returns it to the resurrected rogue.
The experienced rogue explains about stashing equipment before
stealing and suggests using a backpack dyed the color of the
ground and hidden behind a tree. The new rogue thanks the
experienced one and runs off to stash his equipment. The
experienced rogue follows and watches the rogue hide his
equipment. The experienced rogue loots the stash since anyone so
foolish as to stash equipment while people are watching doesn't
deserve to keep it.
