Neiman Marcus is closing 10 Last Call stores that employ 241 people

The Dallas-based retailer said in July that it's reviewing its Last Call business to make sure it has the right mix of brick-and-mortar stores and online presence to meet customer demand.

Neiman Marcus said Tuesday that it will close 10 Last Call stores as part of its strategy to invest in its full-line stores.

Earlier this year, Neiman Marcus opened a new store in Fort Worth and is in the process of building its first store in Manhattan in the major Hudson Yards development on the West Side.

The Dallas-based retailer said in July that it's reviewing its Last Call business to make sure it has the right mix of brick-and-mortar stores and online presence to meet customer demand. At the time, it closed its Last Call store at Allen Premium Outlets. This year it also closed Last Call stores in Colorado Mills and Legacy Place in Dedham, Mass. The company has 37 Last Call stores.

"This decision is about optimizing our Last Call store portfolio to deliver the best customer service and freeing up resources to support new initiatives for our full-line Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman channels. We are investing in our strengths as the clear leader of high-end luxury retail," said Elizabeth Allison, senior vice president, Last Call.

With fewer Last Call stores, the company said, it will be able to differentiate its off-price chain from competitors, by giving customers access to a larger amount of merchandise that's coming from its full-line stores vs. merchandise made specifically for the outlet stores.

Among the 10 stores closing is the Horchow Finale store in Plano.

The other Last Call closings are at Philadelphia Premium; Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, Va.;  Arizona Mills in Tempe; Gurnee Mills in Illinois; Livermore Premium in California;  Arundel Mills in Hanover, Md.; Philadelphia Mills; Great Lakes Crossing  Outlets in Auburn Hills, Mich.; and Lenox Marketplace in Atlanta.

The 241 employees at these stores will receive severance packages based on length of service and will be considered for other positions at Neiman Marcus Group, the company said.
