Frank Lloyd Wright home in Kansas City sells at auction for nearly $1 million
A Frank Lloyd Wright home in the heart of Kansas City just sold at auction.
The Sondern-Adler House is one of a few hundred across the country designed by the famous architect. And KMBC 9 got a last look inside before it sold for nearly $1 million Monday afternoon to a bidder from Nebraska.
In 1939, Wright designed a 900-square foot home for Clarence Sondern in the Roanoke neighborhood of Kansas City. Three squares connected the two wings of the L-shaped home with a workspace, laundry and heater room and bathroom. There were two bedrooms, both with glass doors and openings to the terrace.
Nine years later, Arnold Adler, the second owner of the home, once again called upon Wright to design the addition to the home that would add on more than 2,000 square feet, which included another bedroom, additional bathrooms, additional living spaces and a carport.
Lloyd Wright’s vision was the beginning of the ranch-style home, and the Sondern-Adler House is one of two of his homes in the Kansas City area.
The home had been on the market for 11 months at $1.65 million.
