The writer on the team
Hi folks! I'm putting together my UX writing course and I'm gathering information about how product content gets made in the real world, beyond idealized processes. Feel free to share this with other product content people. I'll be pulling out preliminary results on **March 12, 2021**.

If you're responsible for words in digital products, then this survey is for you, regardless of your title. I've made a lot of the fields write-in, mainly because I suspect that the product content role is far from standardized and I don't want anyone to feel like they're always ticking the 'Other' box.

Some of the questions refer to your current role, but if you want to talk about a previous role, or if you're not currently working, use an example from the past, if you like.

NB: This information is being compiled for my students, but since the information could be useful more broadly, I'd like to be able to share it with others in the industry.

What is your current role title?
What was your role title in your previous job?
What country are you based in? (If you're working for a company in another country than the one you live in, list that, too.) *
What's your educational background? *
Say a few words about your career path. What other jobs or roles have you had that you consider significant to you? *
How are you employed? *
Required
Has product content been your primary responsibility? If not, say a little about where it fits into your broader role. *
What team are you part of (e.g., design, marketing, centralized UXW team)?
Who do you collaborate with the most (e.g., other writers, designers, localization, PMs)?
Who do you report to? Or, if you're freelance, who's your client contact (I mean this generally; don't give their name.)?
Do you have any direct reports?
If you know the writer::designer ratio in your main organization, what is it?
About what size is the company that directly employs you (i.e., how many employees)?
If 'it's complicated' then what size(s) is/are your client company/ies? (Gosh, that was awkward to write.)
Is there anything else you'd like to add about where writers sit in organizations, either as things are now, or as they should be?
If you'd like me to share the results with you, add your email address.
