“The board is extremely pleased with Chief Knoll’s leadership of the service, his commitment to community policing and his dedication to the safety and well-being of our community members,” said Hanover Police Services Board chair Selwyn Hicks in a media release.

The board appointed Knoll as chief of police in 2015 following the retirement of Tracy David.

According to Ontario’s Public Sector Salary Disclosure (PSSD) Act, a list that publicizes the names and salaries of public officials in Ontario who earn salaries of $100,000 or more, often referred to as the “Sunshine List”, Knoll made $179,703 in 2022.

In its media release, the police services board noted some highlights of the service under Knoll’s leadership, including the reorganization of the service to include a special constable program, calls of service and officer reporting review, a complete rewrite of police policies and procedures, a partnership between Hanover Police Service and the Canadian Mental Health Association – Mobile Mental Health Addictions and Response Team, technology upgrades and the introduction of Digital Evidence Management systems, among others.

The Hanover Police Service has also introduced a bike patrol and foot patrol program in its downtown core as well as for the parks and trail systems.

“Our police service has consistently, year over year, been ranked above provincial and national averages in clearance rates, ensuring those who are responsible for crimes are identified and brought to justice,” the police services board said in its release.
