So I just got my new MBP yesterday, and I mostly love it. Keyboard is great, it's fast and it does what I need. However, I noticed today that the right speaker has a pretty severe crackling problem. With the volume even at half volume, it's noticeable. Now I don't really use the speakers much, but for this much money I don't want any issues with this machine. I do have AppleCare, so I assume this can be fixed. However, the real problem is timing. I have a BTO 15", 2.7GHz / 512GB / 460, and I need it for college. I know that the lead time on getting one right now is 4-5 weeks, and I cannot be without a computer for that long. I hope this is an issue they can fix at the store, otherwise I will have to wait to report it so I won't be without my computer.

I have the exact same issue, i use bootcamp to install windows and the right speaker start producing crackling sound!!! It sounds like something broke inside the speaker. Everytime i log in the windows try doing sth with the speaker driver either the left or right speaker produce crackling sound. I have to return it right now. Right now both my speakers crash both in macOs and in windows and they can only produce half of the original volume.

This happens only in bootcamp for me so I'm assuming it's not a hardware issue, ill hear one loud crack every few minutes or so. This isn't present on Mac OS.

However, the buzzling sound caused by the software will actually harm the hardware (it will break the speaker). Right now my speakers are only half the volume of the original volume whether in macOs or in windows because of the driver issues caused in windows. I think the problem is that apple did not update the bootcamp driver to fit for the newest windows system.

I did install Windows 10 under bootcamp, but there was no "popping" on my end. Just started happening today. Issue persists on both MacOS and Windows.

EDIT: The issue is only occurring on the right speaker, not the left. I have noticed no loss of volume.

What do you mean both of your speakers broke? No sound comes out the left or right?

There are sounds. 1. However, the sound is significantly lower than the original sound. Like 70% less volume. 2. Second: Since both them are broken, left speakers and right speakers volume are not balanced. Sometimes left one is significantlhy lowder than right one and sometimes right speaker crackles and it becomes lowder than the left one. 3 Third: the sound quality is obviously poorer than before i install windows.

Oh im so bummed. I have the EXACT same problem happening with mine. I installed bootcamp and plugged in a monitor and it started going nuts. The popping went away after a few seconds but now beyond 50% volume the right speaker sounds terrible. Really don't want to deal with setting up the entire computer again :(

Here is a video of it happening.

The only reason I went with the 15 inch was to get some gaming out of it on Bootcamp :( Do you think that Apple will release some sort of update to fix the sound problem windows is causing?

I think they will but it will cost a while and during this period we cannot install windows to play some of our favorite games. :( And the question is: How do I know the time they fixed the bootcamp driver issue?

Ugh, I only play WoW and Diablo so I guess I will have to deal with playing them on Mac OS. Windows 10 is nauseating anyway I guess =/

I could have sworn I heard a crackle while I was in Windows 10 via bootcamp. I couldn't reproduce but I remember hearing it since it scared me. Gotta be bootcamp drivers.

So we're pretty convinced it's Bootcamp then? Well I actually need it for Engineering Software that only works on Windows, so not sure what do do about that. Wait for the Driver update then get them to fix it? I don't use the speakers a ton, but for nearly $3000 I expect a bit more...

EDIT: For now, I've balanced the sound so more is coming from the left speaker, this has made the overall sound a bit softer but has removed the crackle. Should be a word around until they come out with a fix, so I can get the computer repaired.

I am curious, are there also people here that have no issues with the 15" in Bootcamp or is this issue 100% replicable?

Bbbb bbbut the new MacBook only came out this week.... surely you could send it for repair and use the computer you were using only 2-3 days ago until its fixed??

I have a 15" and installed boot camp today. No speaker problems. Was running Windows 10 for a few hours, including some 3dmark benchmarking sessions.
