Earth Equity Advisors' Fifth Annual Speaker Series

Earth Equity Advisors' Fifth Annual Speaker Series

On Thursday night, we held our annual speaker series over at The Collider in downtown Asheville. Unlike in years past, the theme this year was not sustainability, but diversity and inclusion.

I was excited to spend some time with our speaking guests, Nzinga Shaw, the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer of the Atlanta Hawks professional basketball team and Betsy Moszeter, Chief Operating Officer & Partner at Green Alpha Advisors in Boulder, CO.

We had a great lunch with our team and our guests at Isa’s downtown

The first event of the day was coordinated with B Local Asheville+WNC and Mountain BizWorks and held over at The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design. Nzinga was joined by about 15 local business owners and community leaders for a discussion on diversity and inclusion.

Michael Carter from AB Tech moderated the discussion focused on concrete ways to nurture diversity across a range of issues.

At 5:30, we headed over to the Collider for the reception before the main event.

The house wasn’t quite as full as last year, but the audience was just as excited and engaged. Betsy and Zing told their stories of how they came to be involved in diversity and inclusion, some of the challenges they faced and the victories they’ve celebrated.

We discussed the bottom line advantages of fostering a diverse workforce and client base, the differences between equality and equity and the political upheaval we’re seeing now.

We will have the video of the event up soon, so you won’t miss a word - there’s no way I can accurately portray the quality of the event! I’m so grateful to Zing & Betsy for visiting us in Asheville and taking the level of our Speaker Series up a notch. Thank you!
