Facebook is testing its own AI personal assistant to rival Siri, Cortana

Look out, Apple, Microsoft and Google: Facebook may be entering the personal digital assistant fray by testing a potential competitor to Siri, Cortana, and Google Now.

A report on The Information said the Facebook virtual assistant is dubbed "Moneypenny" and will live in Facebook Messenger.

"The company is working on a feature within Facebook Messenger that allows users to ask real people for help researching and ordering products and services, among other tasks," it said, quoting three people briefed on the project.

But it said there are presently "lots of questions" on how it will work.

Engadget.com said the assistant may "let you ask real people for help with stuff," though its specialties for now appear to be research and shopping.

It added no release date for the new assistant. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
