Craft 3 is Back in Action

Craft3 Dev Preview
Craft3 Control Panel

We just released Craft Dev 3.0.2910, the first Craft 3 Dev Preview update in almost a year. This update brings tons of bug fixes, a few new features, some code cleanup/refactoring, and most notably, we’ve ported all of the changes that came to Craft 2 in the past year.

You can download the release from craftcms.com/3. There are two ways to install it: you can either update an existing Craft 2 site running 2.6.2788 or later by swapping out its craft/app folder with the new one, or follow the standard installation instructions to install a fresh copy. (It’s not possible to update existing Craft 3 Dev Preview sites to this release though, sorry.)

Some things to note:

  • Craft 3 now requires PHP 5.6+ and MySQL 5.5+.
  • You may need to clean up your Redactor configs so that they are valid JSON.
  • Plugins need a “plugin.json” file now, rather than “config.json”.

Please remember that this is a developer preview, and should absolutely not be used for actual projects! Things are still shifting pretty rapidly.

Going forward, we’re all-in on Craft 3. Expect to see new builds pretty frequently as we continue implementing new features and fixing bugs. We’ll keep releasing minor build updates for Craft 2.6, but there will almost certainly not be a Craft 2.7, considering that porting Craft 2.5 and 2.6 to Craft 3 almost killed us.
