Frank Lloyd Wright driving tour set for June 8 in Manitowoc, Sheboygan counties

USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

MANITOWOC - Wright in Wisconsin recently announced the 2019 Wright and Like driving tour will be held “Along the Shore” in northeast Wisconsin — from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8.

Eight homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and “like” architects Ken Dahlin, Earl F. Miller and John Bloodgood Schuster will be featured. The homes include the following:

  • Jeff and Jane Ueker House, 2017, Dahlin, Adell;
  • William and Nancy Webster House, 1970, Schuster, Two Rivers;
  • Harold and Janet Schulz House, 1962, Schuster, Oostburg;
  • Walter and Jean Huchthausen House, 1959, Schuster, Manitowoc;
  • Max and Bertha Alpert House, 1958, Schuster, Manitowoc;
  • Emil and Nora Schmidtman House, 1957, Schuster, Manitowoc;
  • Dr. John and Anna Meany House, 1912, Miller, Manitowoc; and
  • Bernard and Fern Schwartz House (Still Bend), 1939, Wright, Two Rivers.
Still Bend, also known as Frank Lloyd Wright's Bernard Schwartz House, is located in Two Rivers.

While some may not be familiar with the “like” architects, Schuster spent many years working closely with Russell Barr Williamson, a close associate of Wright. Their influence is apparent in Schuster's designs. Miller was a Chicago school-trained architect at the turn of the 20th century with his own distinct style.

From a prairie schoolhouse in Manitowoc’s recently designated Lincoln Boulevard Historic District to mid-century modern gems, this tour offers multiple architectural looks.

Tickets can be purchased at wrightinwisconsing.org or by calling 608-287-0339. Tickets purchased in advance are $60 each for members of Wright in Wisconsin and $70 each for non-members.

The event will be held rain or shine. Participants provide their own transportation, and driving instructions will be provided.

Still Bend, also known as Frank Lloyd Wright's Bernard Schwartz House, is located in Two Rivers.

Tickets also can be purchased on the day of the event at the tour headquarters: Hamilton Wood Type & Print Museum, 1816 10th St., Two Rivers. Tickets purchased on tour day cost $70 for members and $80 for nonmembers.

Wright in Wisconsin is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization created with assistance from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.
