Lufthansa joined the Airspace by Airbus single-aisle family this month, with its first A321neo entering service with the updated cabin design. The carrier is the first in Europe to offer the refreshed interior; JetBlue‘s A321LR was the first globally to fly with the design, entering transatlantic service last month.
With the new Airspace Cabin, we are significantly improving the travel experience on short-haul routes and setting a new industry benchmark.
– Heike Birlenbach, Head of Customer Experience, Lufthansa Group
The Airspace concept aims to delivery consistency of certain design elements across all Airbus aircraft. First launched on the A350, then extended to the A330neo family, it now also flies on the smaller A320 product line. Among the passenger-focused enhancements to the cabin:
- Slimmer sidewall panels for extra personal space at shoulder level
- Better views through the windows with their redesigned bezels and completely integrated window shades
- Larger overhead bins for 60% more bags (compared to prior Airbus bins)
- Full LED lighting technologies throughout the cabin, including a LED-lit entrance area at the boarding door
- New lavatories with hygienic touchless features and antimicrobial surfaces
Heike Birlenbach, Head of Customer Experience, Lufthansa Group highlights the new interior as part of efforts to “focus emphatically on a premium product” for passengers. Birlenbach continues, “For us, premium means providing high-quality, individualized and relevant offers for all our passengers at all times.”
“Lufthansa has once again made a choice of innovation and passenger appeal, raising the bar for the flying public at large to experience next-level, Airbus leading cabin innovations,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International. “I am delighted to welcome one of our long term partners, Lufthansa, to become the first European operator for the A320neo Family Airspace cabin.”
This is the first of more than 80 new A320 family aircraft the Lufthansa Group chose to equip with Airspace cabins.
