Here's a summer camp that we wish was around when we were kids: Camp Taliesin West. Created by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, this STEAM-heavy camp consists of a series of architecture, science, engineering, art, and photography programs designed to teach young students the principles of one of America’s most celebrated architects: Frank Lloyd Wright.

Camp Taliesin West will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona at (naturally) Wright's iconic desert laboratory, Taliesin West. Campers are invited for the week between June and August, where they will follow strict public health protocols to ensure a safe experience. (Those who feel more comfortable learning from home, or who don't live in the area, can attend virtual sessions that are also available for a reduced price.) Here's what programs will be offered—some more than once during the summer!

A Greener Tomorrow (ages 11-15): This camp will explore sustainability issues facing cities in our world today and investigate cutting-edge technology to find solutions to urban planning challenges.

Art & Observation (ages 10-14): This camp will teach students how to draw from life, as well as watercolor techniques. Students will look to the architecture and natural Sonoran Desert landscape of Taliesin West for their projects.

Operation Mars (ages 10-14): Operation Mars will dive into real space issues that NASA and others are trying to solve. Topics include human life on Mars, the engineering process, and more.

Photographing Wright (ages 12-16): Local Arizona photographer Andrew Pielage will teach students about the tools needed to best utilize a DSLR camera to capture the Sonoran Desert and other aspects of Taliesin West.

Design Your Dream Space: Beginner (ages 10-12): This camp will challenge students to design their own space conducive to any climate and environment of their choosing.

Design Your Dream Space: Advanced (ages 12-14): An evolution of the beginner course, this camp will further place students in the shoes of an architect by incorporating the needs and desires of clients, environmental concerns, and sustainable practices into their designs.

Architectural Discovery (ages 7-9): This camp will teach students new architectural theories each day. They will also get the chance to test basic concepts and complete hands-on projects, all of which will be displayed in a collection at the end of the week.
