JetBlue‘s new service between Boston and London will have to wait a couple more weeks. The carrier will delay service launch to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports, owing to delays in aircraft deliveries from Airbus.
Flights to Gatwick will now launch on Thursday, August 4th; previously they were scheduled for July 19th. Heathrow services will commence on September 20th rather than August 22nd.
These revised launch dates are, according to the carrier, “due to unexpected production delays from Airbus, the manufacturer of the Airbus A321 Long Range (LR) aircraft.” JetBlue has specific aircraft deliveries pending for this summer, with the two planes slated to operate transatlantic routes from Boston. JetBlue was recently notified by Airbus that their delivery will be delayed.
Affected passengers will be rebooked via JFK, on partners (presumably American Airlines, at least to Heathrow) or receive a refund.
Flights on both Gatwick and Heathrow routes will operate daily on the Airbus A321LR with 24 redesigned Mint suites, 114 core seats and the sleek and spacious Airspace cabin interior. The A321LR platform – offering the range of a wide-body but with the economics of a single-aisle aircraft – allows JetBlue to effectively compete with the airline’s award-winning service and attractive fares on flights between Boston and London.
The company launched its long-awaited service to London last year, with flights from New York City to Heathrow. Gatwick was added to the network from JFK as well.
