Thursday, the Ministry of Labor announced that the Prime Minister’s announcement to suspend all ministries, official departments, institutions and public bodies in celebration of the anniversary of the Prophet’s birthday, which falls on Saturday, Oct. 8, includes the private sector.

The ministry confirmed that official holidays must be compensated for private sector workers if they do not take the day off. They are also entitled to an additional wage (150 percent) of their usual wage in accordance with the provisions of Article 59/b of the Jordanian Labor Law No. (8) for the year 1996 and its amendments.

Earlier, the Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh announced an official holiday on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, on the occasion of Al Mawlid al-Nabawi al-Sharif, Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister issued an official statement declaring the suspension of work in ministries, official departments, institutions, and public bodies.

Establishments whose nature of work requires them to operate are excluded from the official holiday.
