Passengers on JSX can now earn points in the United Airlines MileagePlus program. The partnership is “a critical advancement of the continued relationship between JSX and United Airlines, with more cooperation to be announced later this year.”
Expanding horizons for our Customers through the MileagePlus program adds a new dimension to our class-defining product that both JSX and United Customers will be able to access and enjoy.
– John Redcay, JSX Chief Commercial Officer
Passengers will earn points based on distance flown, not dollars spent. Given the relatively short trips and typical JSX fares, this may prove to be one of the cases where that approach is less advantageous to MileagePlus members.
The companies are also offering a bonus for flights through 31 August, up to 11x the total points for top tier MileagePlus Premier members. Even base members earn at a 5x bonus. The bonuses are distance-based, just like the regular earning, which is an outsized win for passengers.
JSX previously partnered with JetBlue for points earning. That partnership is at a fixed rate per trip. The JetBlue/JSX partnership also includes a codeshare that helps JSX flights gain visibility on global distribution platforms. It is unclear if the United-JSX partnership will supplant or augment the JSX-JetBlue arrangement.
United also announced a deal with JSX earlier this year whereby students from the United Aviate pilot training program have a pathway into the commercial airline business. Following their Aviate program pilots can secure a 24-month contract with JSX and then transition to United’s fleet.
