Berkeley Hills midcentury masterpiece by Daniel Liebermann asks $3.8 million

Comes with the famed architect’s signature circular style

Frank Lloyd Wright protégé Daniel Liebermann—who helped build the Marin County Civic Center (1962)—last made an appearance on Curbed for this Mill Valley gem. But his works aren’t relegated only to Marin.

Take, for example, this standout work up in the Berkeley Hills.

Sitting on 1.4 acres, 200 Panoramic Way features five bedrooms and five baths, as well as an exterior studio and guesthouse. Roughly 5,600 square feet of space make up the property.

Midcentury details inside Panoramic Way (as it’s christened) consist of walls of glass, cutouts, and exposed natural elements like stone slates, wood beams, and brick.

While it lacks the standout interior brickwork of the aforementioned Mill Valley abode (feast your eyes), the circular beamed roof and skylight mimic Liebermann’s famous Radius House, the home for which he is most lauded.

His thumbprint can also be found here in the curved brick and wood flooring.

Although Panoramic Way has remained more or less untouched over the years, recent additions, like halogen track lighting and (mortifying) vessel sinks, mean that this space is ripe for a gentle yet thoughtful restoration. But nothing too drastic, you hear? The foyer and staircase alone are worth the steep price tag.

Speaking of which, asking is $3,800,000.

Known as an eccentric, Lieberman, who passed away in 2015, was an unconventional man. After his death, Point Reyes Lighthouse noted, “He would comport himself in layers of wool clothing during summer heat, and kept a trove of artifacts—including old cars—at his home in Inverness.”

His kooky mindset translated into cohesive homes that now rival any Eichler. When it comes to new constructions, the Bay Area could certainly use more Liebermanns.
