ABOUT THE SESSION

Frequency separation is an invaluable Photoshop technique that enables you to perfect images. Join this follow-along lab with Photoshop expert Ben Willmore to learn how to remove distractions, blemishes, or other unwanted details of an image without compromising the ones you want to keep. Build skills in separating an image into low- and high-frequency layers, editing the two layers independently, and then merging them together for a perfectly retouched photo.

You’ll find out how to use frequency separation to:

  • Remove unwanted image details while keeping desirable textures, colors, or shading
  • Relight an object by changing the apparent lighting angle
  • Remove stains on textiles without affecting the texture of the fabric
  • Reduce or eliminate the shine on a surface or face
