The housing crisis in Canada is a subject being discussed this week at the Liberal government cabinet retreat.
And while there has been talk that an influx of immigration puts more pressure on the housing crisis in the country, the Intergovernmental Affairs Minister was asked today (tuesday) whether there was consideration on restricting the number of immigrants each year and Dominic LeBlanc says – “no”.
He was asked about the challenges of contract policing and says jurisdictions are entitled to go in a different direction.
“It’s not even preliminary to say that there are plans to unscramble that omelette that quickly. But we’re doing our own internal review, I’ve talked to RCMP officials, I’m going I think with the (RCMP) Commissioner to Regina in a couple of weeks.”
LeBlanc says the RCMP have served eight out of ten provinces with multi-billion-dollar contracts that have existed for decades. The Mass Casualty Commission report released in March in the wake of the 2020 shooting rampage in Nova Scotia called for an overhaul of the national police force including moving away from the depot model of training. RCMP Depot is located in Regina.
