Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party appears to have reached a level of popularity in Quebec that sees it fighting Justin Trudeau’s Liberals for second place, a new survey suggests.

The Léger Marketing poll conducted for the Québécor media conglomerate found that while the Bloc Québécois maintained first place in the province, polling 35 per cent, support in Quebec for the Conservatives had increased by two points since October to 24 per cent. During the same four weeks, the Liberals dropped by five points to 22 per cent.

The poll suggests support in the province for Jagmeet Singh’s New Democratic Party increased by two points to 13 per cent, followed by Elizabeth May’s Green Party of Canada and Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada, with three per cent each.

The survey found also that Poilievre and Trudeau were in a dead heat when it came to being perceived as the best person to be prime minister, each polling 20 per cent. However the past nine years in power seem to have taken their toll on the Liberals’ fortunes in Quebec, with 60 per cent of respondents expressing dissatisfaction with the party.

The online poll of 1,010 Quebec adults was conducted Nov. 8-11 and cannot be assigned a margin of error. A sampling of this size for a probabilistic survey would have a margin of error of 3.08 per cent 19 times out of 20.
