Monthly Update

Your Donation Makes A Difference!

In 2023, the generosity of our donors helped OA+D further its mission to preserve the legacy of the creative organic movement through conservation of original design materials, education, publication, and exhibition. The support we've received directly impacts our efforts. But we need your continued financial support.

So, what does it mean when you give to OA+D on Giving Tuesday?

• A gift of $1,000 could help towards the printing costs of one of our groundbreaking issues of the Journal of Organic Architecture + Design.

• $500 could help cover the costs of scanning and describing a group of materials for upload to our online archival catalog.

• $250 could help towards the purchase of a new slide scanner to help digitize the tens of thousands of slides in our collections.

• $100 helps towards the purchase of vital archival storage folders to keep sensitive original drawings protected.

• A gift of any amount helps preserve the organic legacy and inspire future generations.

Every Dollar Counts! We hope you will show your support with a year-end Tax-deductible donation today!

From The Archives

Throughout this anniversary year we've been featuring some of the hundreds of items OA+D is fortunate enough to have in its collections that are connected to Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel.

This month we feature a rare portfolio titled "Imperial Hotel; Architect Frank Lloyd Wright." It was the first time photos of Frank Lloyd Wright's new hotel were published and consists of one page of text by Yutaro Takanashi, five double page plans within separate blue covers, and 48 plates of photographs. Issued in Tokyo by Koyosha Publishers in May 1923, it is little known and had never been published in its totality in the United States until OA+D did it in the Journal OA+D V6N3 in 2018. The plans are from the set drawn in Japan superseding those made at Taliesin and Chicago, 1917-20. The hotel had been open to guests and the public since July 1922, with some unfinished sections closed off, accounting for the limited selection of views. It is not known why this portfolio was issued three months before the official opening in September. While most known versions of the portfolio have red fabric binding on the spine, this copy in the OA+D Archives collections features blue fabric.

If you have materials that are related to the Imperial Hotel (or any other organic architectural or design items) that you're interested in donating to join our growing collections, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.
