GREETINGS FROM GUILDFORD, UK

Welcome to a random Saturday update from Jane at "Resilient Kids". For regular readers, you'll notice I've also included a new "In The News" section at the end too!

Meanwhile...

On Monday, I attended a talk by the Archbishop of Canterbury on ‘ethical leadership and business success’There was a particular focus on the power of community, and a discussion on how to use town centers in more creative and effective ways, including for families.

What a jolly lovely bloke.

He really does walk the talk.

Beforehand, I’d had a nose around his website and noted he too had lived for a while in Tanzania. I also found out he had 6 children, and sadly lost his eldest daughter aged just 7-months in a car crash on their return home from Paris to the UK. 1983. This obviously had a significant impact on his direction in life and I've been reading more widely about him.

At the event, my friend Claire kindly introduced us,  so we exchanged a brief story each about our time in Tanzania and I told him about "Resilient Kids". He asked his photographer to take a pic of us together. I've tweeted a little more about our exchange HERE

Later in the week, I showed some of the children I work with his video - the Kenyan school scene close to the start is poignant.

Most of us have too much stuff.

Life could be simpler, would you agree?
Whilst I was based at an International School part of our "IDEALS" curriculum was to take our children to the local school for a different experience. This was me teaching there too.
ONTO THE BEING MORE WEALTHY BIT

Obviously, it’s also a state of mind, a focus on abundance, gratitude for what we already have.

Plus getting rid of the excess.

A lottery win would of course make it even better.

Last night, I went through my bank account and cancelled a few direct debits. What a relief to do this.

The £3 monthly subscription to the WWF for “Eric The Adopted Penguin” almost ended too. This would be treading on ice.

This month, I’ll be 50 and have decided on my next adventure - an electric bike. Research has taken me from a Halfords bike store £1400 ‘that’ll do but a bit expensive bike’, to almost £3,000 from the electric bike shop. It’s possible to go for a “bike scheme allowance”, upon closer inspection, it isn’t such a deal.

I was wealthier for a while.
