Fox & Hound owner files for bankruptcy

Sports bar operator seeks debt protection amid weak restaurant environment

The owner of sports bar chains Fox & Hound and Champps filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, its second such filing in less than three years.

Dallas-based Last Call Guarantor LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy early Wednesday, citing $10 million to $50 million in assets, and $100 million to $500 million in liabilities.

The company operates 48 Fox & Hound locations and 23 Champps units, along with nine Bailey’s Sports Grille restaurants. It also franchises five Champps locations. The company has restaurants in 25 states.

That’s many fewer than the 101 total units the company oversaw when it filed for bankruptcy in 2013. At the time, the company had $119 million in debt.

The New York-based private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management acquired the chain in a bankruptcy deal early in 2014.

The bankruptcy is the second restaurant chain bankruptcy this week, the fourth restaurant chain bankruptcy this year, and the fifth since November 2015, following Quaker Steak & Lube, Buffets LLC, Johnny Carino’s and, most recently, Logan’s Roadhouse.
