Frequent fliers (or big credit card spenders) in JetBlue‘s TrueBlue loyalty program will see a few key upgrades in their Mosaic elite status next year. The carrier announced a partnership with the IHG hotel program and Avis rental cars, along with more upgrade options, though also a shift in upgrade costs.
Pick up IHG status
JetBlue splits its Mosaic benefits into two categories, those available to all members at a tier and a “perks you pick” section where travelers select which benefit they want from a collection of options. For the 2024 program year the Perks You Pick pool adds two new options. One allows members to select Platinum Elite status in the IHG hotel program, valid for the remainder of the current program year as well as the following year. This option brings TrueBlue into a new level of loyalty reciprocity, similar to United’s MileagePlus program (Marriott partnership) or American’s AAdvantage relationship with Hyatt. The partnership is not quite as full featured as those larger programs, but it is a solid offering, even if members have to choose it over alternatives like 15,000 TrueBlue points or a waiver of the cabin pet travel fee.
Mosaics today can also pick a 20-tile bonus towards qualifying towards the next Mosaic tier level. Starting next year a second option for a 20-tile bonus will be available. Only one of those bonuses can be used directly by the member, however. The other must be gifted to a different TrueBlue member.
Upgrade Changes atop the program
When Mosaic added its tiers it also added an option for upgrades to the Mint cabin, though they came with significant limitations, including only being confirmed at 24 hours prior to travel. Under the 2024 program the upgrades can be confirmed at time of booking, though the number of credits required will now vary based on demand. Previously domestic routes required one credit and long-haul required two. Mosaic 3 members will still receive four credits and Mosaic 4 members an additional two.
An additional tier of phone support will also be added with higher priority for Mosaic 3 & 4 members.
Rental cars, too
Finally, while all Mosaics have the option to select the IHG Platinum status, the Avis elite status match will be granted to all members, though not until later in 2024.
The changes appear, overall, generally positive for program members. The shifting price of the upgrades could prove a negative versus the upgrade timing, though only time will tell. But unlike other programs’ major changes these seem relatively small, and mostly increasing opportunities for members.
