Saskatoon police union and board to start collective bargaining

The current collective agreement expires on Dec. 31.

The Saskatoon Police Association has sent a notice to the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners of its intent to start negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement.

The current contract expires at the end of this year.

The union’s Oct. 31 letter to the board is on the agenda for the police commission’s meeting on Thursday.

The current agreement expires on Dec. 31. It was approved in June 2020, and was retroactive to the beginning of that year.

The three-year agreement raised salaries by one per cent on July 1, 2020, by 1.6 per cent on July 1, 2021 and 1.5 per cent this past July.

The terms of the existing agreement were approved by 76.8 per cent of union members; 81.2 per cent of the 529 active members participated in the ratification voting process.

The previous three-year contract included increases of 1.3 per cent in January 2017, 1.45 per cent in December 2017, two per cent in 2018 and 1.75 per cent in 2019.

The police commission is expected to discuss the union’s request to enter negotiations at Thursday’s meeting.
