My personal reflections on AI in Business Communication Over the weekend I mocked up an AI-generated video titled "The Language of Business." This experience sparked a question in my mind: Can a creation that is entirely synthetic still hold significant value in the realm of business communication? As the creator (if I could ever call myself that ...), I was intrigued not only by the content but by its origin. Whilst I did supervise and refine, this piece was crafted heavily with AI in very little time, showcasing the strides technology has made in mimicking some of the complexities of human expression. Which led me to ponder: - Does the synthetic nature of this creation lessen its impact or does it herald a new era in learning and professional development? - Can AI genuinely grasp and convey the intricate subtleties of business communication, an area so deeply rooted in human experience? - How do you perceive the contribution of AI in enhancing our understanding of business communication? - Where do we draw the line between human insight and artificial creation? As we navigate this new landscape where AI increasingly intersects with our professional lives, these questions become more applicable. I’m highlighting the critical need for openness int how AI tools are used in communication. It's about building trust and understanding, ensuring our audience knows when they're interacting with AI. The second principle is: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. "Communication professionals commit to transparency and responsible disclosure regarding AI used in communication. We provide meaningful information appropriate to the organisation's context, informing our audience of their interactions with AI tools and building awareness and understanding of the tool. We must correct any errors, biases, or unintended consequences that may arise, as well as publicly correct misinformation caused by using AI. Ultimately, communication professionals are responsible and accountable for communication from their organisation. 🌟 Tip 1: Clearly communicate the role of AI in your communication strategies, fostering trust and credibility among your audience. 🌟 Tip2 : Have a voice in governing the use of AI within your organisation when it comes to communication. Casual conversations can touch on the biggest issues, can't they? Who would have imagined that a casual contact over lunch on a weekend would result in great advice on AI. A general chat with someone I've known for a few years yet see infrequently led to the usual question of - How's things at work? We shared the updates and then spoke of changes. Naturally AI came up. The advice that I then heard was too good to not share, and it comes from the leadership at that company. They have two rules for using AI - yes they're diving in to it. Rule 1 never put any confidential or IP related content into a request Rule 2 nothing is sent outside this office without having been reviewed and edited by a human How good are those simple rules? As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to make significant strides 📈 in the realm of customer service, it raises an ethical conundrum: Should customers know when they are interacting with AI? 🤖 One viewpoint asserts that transparency is paramount. Trust, after all, is the bedrock of any fruitful business-customer relationship. 💼💡 By disclosing AI usage, we uphold the customers' right to knowledge about the interaction dynamics.
