The British Airways A380 is officially coming back. The airline will use its largest aircraft to carry passengers to warm, sunny destinations as part of a significant rebound in long-haul service volume for the winter. The planned services will see four of the aircraft returning initially.
With welcome news from the US, we are dramatically increasing flights and bringing home some of our A380s to give our customers as many options as possible.
– Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances
From November the A380 will serve Los Angeles and Miami, both historically strong Winter markets for the carrier. Previously rumored flights to DFW are not in the cards. Dubai will also see A380 service from December.
But the company’s focus on restoring US markets – based on the reopening of inbound travel to vaccinated foreigners – will drive the bulk of the winter schedule adjustments.
New York City will initially increase to five daily flights, then to eight in December. Double-daily service will operate to:
- Boston
- Chicago
- Los Angeles
- San Francisco
- Washington
- Dallas
- Miami
- Toronto
Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle, Atlanta, Denver, Houston and Vancouver will al see daily flights over the Winter. British Airways will also restart services to Austin, Orlando, Tampa, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Baltimore, with timing dependent on exactly when the US rules change. In December the airline targets resumption of the Nashville and New Orleans routes.
As part of the routes relaunching BA is also resuming more of its ground services around the globe. Lounges in Chicago, Washington, San Francisco and Houston are expected to open this week.
Islands routes
For those looking to get even more sunshine over the Christmas holidays, British Airways will increase its Caribbean service with 12 flights a week to Barbados and nine each to Antigua and St Lucia. The Caribbean markets will split between Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Flights to popular luxury Indian Ocean destinations, Maldives and Mauritius, will also be increasing to 10 and six per week over the Christmas period.
