An engineer has assessed the possible expansion of the current Stratford Police Services station, located at 17 George St. W, but further details are scarce.

“The site assessment came back to say that there is land on this site that is adequate for building,” said Police Chief Gregory Skinner. “There’s other land that’s not.”

Skinner said that the engineering report has been presented to the police board, though that report – and the details within that report – are still confidential.

He is hopeful that in the next few months he and the board will be able to speak on the contents.

He did disclose that the board is hoping to maintain the current location for the police service and expand on the site.

“Assuming that the site will support what the police service needs, and the courts need, and the city is willing to support, then we'll move forward with some more in depth examination of what that looks like,” Skinner said.

Whether it's a new police station or a renovation to the current station, police have been looking for more space for a number of years.

In November, “a last nudge” was made to consult with the City of Stratford and make an expansion a priority.
