News And Updates

Happy Autumn! As the weather cools and the leaves start to change, we're happy to report that with the generosity of many supporters we were able to make our Summer Appeal goal! A big thank you to all who supported us in this endeavor. As a thank you, those people who made donations to the effort will be receiving one of the first copies of the forthcoming Jacobs Houses book when it's released before year's end.

If you wanted to participate in the effort but have not had a chance yet, don't fret—make a donation before the end of the month at our website and we'll be sure to include you in the book offer!

In other news, due to supply chain issues with paper and mailing envelope availability, Journal OA+D V10/N2 was just mailed this week from the printer and should start arriving to mailboxes in the coming week. We regret the delay, but hopefully the wonderful issue on Arthur Dyson's Hilton House will be worth the wait.

We have lots of other good things in the works before the end of the year, including the release of the much anticipated Jacobs Houses book and the next Journal OA+D authored by Kathryn Smith on Frank Lloyd Wright's Walker House in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stay tuned for more details!

From The Archives

The OA+D Archives is very pleased to announce the donation of an original Susan Jacobs Lockhart-designed art glass window, created for the Wolf House, Chicago, IL (1998). The 40" x 40" window, titled "Sunlight thru Treetops" is a stunning and dynamic blue and green abstraction of sunlight streaming through ash tree leaves and branches. Donated along with the window are the original correspondence between Susan and the clients, a copy of the line art design, and other ephemera.

The donation is a meaningful one coming so soon after Susan's passing at the end of August 2022. OA+D will soon be the official repository of Susan's artworks and other materials and will be made publicly accessible for study and appreciation in the near future. If you'd like to learn more about Susan's wonderful creative work and extraordinary life, be sure to get a copy of the Journal OA+D published in 2019.

If you happen to have materials related to Susan's life or career (or any other organic architectural or design items) that you're interested in donating to be preserved, please let us know by contacting us at info@oadarchives.org.

November OA+D Study Center Event

The OA+D Archives will be hosting a special open house fundraiser at our Chandler, AZ Study Center on November 11, 2022. In addition to snacks and drinks on our patio area, there will be tours of the study center and select Taliesin Architects Collection materials, new OA+D publications launched, a special limited edition holiday ornament available, a silent auction fundraiser, and more.

It's sure to be an enjoyable evening to help support our ongoing efforts of preservation and education on the legacy of organic architecture and design!

If you're going to be in the Chandler area on November 11th and would like to attend, then send us an RSVP in advance to info@oadarchives.org and we'll be sure to add you to the festivities participant list!
