Police want to re-start Women’s Commission

Around four years after the last one, the Prince Albert Police are looking to create a new Women’s Commission.

PAPS said in a statement this afternoon that the commission will help guide the service and so are looking for residents who might be interested.

Chief Jonathan Bergen said he has heard from community members that the commission needs to resume.

“Women are compassionate and resilient leaders and I value their advice on issues affecting policing,” Bergen said. “I have had the opportunity to work with many great leaders throughout my nearly 24-year career in Prince Albert, and many of those leaders being women.”

Some participants have been chosen already, but Bergen is hopeful more people will step up.

“This is an opportunity to hear ideas and perspectives that can influence our direction and build on our efforts to strengthen relationships and I appreciate the opportunity to continue learning as part of my role,” he said.

Expressions of interest from the women of Prince Albert are being taken with members chosen based on ‘various considerations’.

The commission will reflect the city and represent the many intersections of the community, according to the statement.

Women who are interested in joining the commission are asked to submit a letter outlining their experience and interest in participating.
