As the new month starts some passengers will have new snack options on board their flights. Both JetBlue and United Airlines plan updates to their complimentary inflight snack rotations, while Delta Air Lines is switching up the beverage cart beginning in March 2020.
JetBlue adds new 88 Acres bars
For JetBlue travelers the snack basket will briefly expand to six items on board as the company adds 88 Acres bars to the rotation. The new oat bars will eventually replace the pretzels currently catered as that existing supply is exhausted. As the pretzels disappear the basket will return to five items, similar to today.
The company is also planning on a replacement for its cookie option on board. JetBlue has been flying with the mustache-shaped Belgian Boys cookies for nearly two years and that run appears set to end.
United drops Biscoff for Oreo
United Airlines also recently announced changes to its snacks, with the Biscoff cookies disappearing in favor of Oreo Thins starting on 1 March 2020.
The United move generated a swift and loud online reaction from passengers bemoaning the change. Delta Air Lines threw a little shade on Twitter, too.
Eventually United quelled the concerns, releasing an update announcing that the Biscoff would return in May.
This is not the first time a United catering change drove furor online. The carrier removed Stroopwafels in 2018 to outrage, such that it now offers the caramel cookie snacks on all flights, not just in the morning. United also briefly removed tomato juice from its flights in 2018 owing to low consumption rates. The juice is back, again after online outrage, though the take rates are still low.
Delta adds spiked seltzer
For Delta the March change is a new beverage on board. The carrier will cater BON & VIV Spiked Seltzer in two flavors, grapefruit and lemon-lime. “We have a keen focus on listening to customer feedback and innovating our food and beverage programs to provide more choice,” said Mike Crowley, Vice President – On-Board Service Operations. “Spiked seltzer has been a fast-growing trend in the beverage industry, so we knew it was something our customers wanted.”
The carrier also notes that the BON & VIV option has been in some Sky Clubs since the beginning of the year and this move brings continuity between Delta Sky Club and onboard offerings.
