3D experiences are here, and Amazon Sumerian is the quickest and easiest way to build one! Amazon challenged participants to create AR, VR, or 3D apps using their browser-based IDE. With Sumerian’s unmatched ease-of-use, they built highly immersive and interactive scenes for a variety of headsets, and both iOS and Android devices. Sumerian’s one-click publishing removes the need to build for each platform from scratch. And with AR Kit-compatibility, a ton of graphics to choose from, and plenty of room for customization, they published in 3D in no time.

Participants in this hackathon had access to tutorial and training materials to learn to build immersive apps with Amazon Sumerian and received support throughout the challenge via our Slack community, Twitch, and webinars. Experts provided training on the Sumerian service and provided insights into creating apps that integrated with Amazon Polly, Amazon Lex, DynamoDB, S3, IoT, ML, AI, Amplify and other AWS services.

No hardware required: Sumerian is compatible with many headsets but they didn't need hardware to take part! Learn more about compatible browsers and devices here.

Categories

For this challenge, participants built experiences that fell into one of the following categories:

  • Education, Training, and Simulations
  • Brand Engagement and Retail
  • Entertainment, Hospitality and Media
  • Other (new product/service, etc)

Bonus: We also selected winners for Best VR, AR and 2D app as well as best use of a Sumerian Host or Chatbot. In addition to all the great prizes they won, the first 100 eligible submissions won $250 in AWS Credits! Need some future inspiration? Requirements

Main Requirement: Create and publish apps using Amazon Sumerian’s browser-based IDE that fit into one of the challenge categories.

Submit the following assets:

    1. A demo video (hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku). Your video should include a demo of your working application via a step-by-step visual demo. Screencasting is a good way to demo these apps.
    2. Submission form. Written description of the app, use case, value proposition, category of submission, designated device, and any necessary operational instructions. If your app requires specific steps for use or if you designed with a specific device in mind, you must include the details on your submission form.
    3. URL for your published app for evaluation. Provide the unique URL you will receive when your app is published.
