Creative Practitioners

Do you have at least 3 years of experience as a creative practitioner? Are you excited to learn how to tell factual stories in new ways using emerging technologies?

We are seeking diverse UK-based storytellers to take part in a nationwide immersive project about our past, our future, and belonging. Applicants from groups underrepresented in the creative industries are strongly encouraged to apply by 15th November 2021.

30 successful applicants will receive £15,000 reimbursement to join a team of high-profile creative partners and a mission to bring to life in 3D ways, many untold stories across the UK. Your role will be to collect and curate stories and hidden histories in one of fifteen locations. The chosen locations are: Blackpool, Bristol, Bradford, Dundee (Scotland), Dumfries (Scotland), Lambeth (London), Lewisham (London), Lincoln, Newport (Wales), Omagh (Northern Ireland), Sheffield, Slough, Swansea (Wales), Swindon, Wolverhampton.

Your responsibilities will include securing and editing interviews, 3D scanning people and places, and using film and TV archives from the BFI, BBC and regional archives. Working alongside our partners ISO Design and Nexus Studios, we will create a series of interactive emotional maps and historical mobile AR trails to showcase next summer, as part of the soon to be renamed Festival UK* 2022, a landmark celebration of creativity taking place next year across the UK.

You do not need any prior experience of working with immersive technology - we provide full training and access to equipment and support throughout the production - but an interest in the future direction of the media industry and a passion for telling stories is essential. This is not a new entrants or early career programme, but is designed for those ready to step up to the next level in their career. You may currently work in radio, theatre, film, TV, podcasts, games, documentaries, audio, community engagement projects, or other practices that demonstrate your ability to tell compelling factual-based stories.

We are looking for transferable skills in at least two of these areas:

• Factual storytelling
• Narrative development
• Working with audio equipment
• Working in local communities
• Working with archive video

To be eligible, you need a connection to one of these places, and/or be able to demonstrate your ability to tell stories from communities living there.

Applications close on 15th November 2021, although we will be reviewing early submissions on a rolling basis.
