Oakville Councillor named a director in Canadian police governance service

Oakville Ward 5 Regional and Town Councillor Jeff Knoll has been appointed as a director to the Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG).

The local founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flim.ca Cinemas was first elected to Oakville Council in 2000 and has served six terms since. He is also currently serving as the Chair of the Halton Police Services Board.

CAPG is a national organization and works collaboratively and proactively with its members and partners to enhance civilian governance of policing across Canada.

“I’m excited to announce my appointment as a Director to the Canadian Association of Police Governance,” Knoll said on Twitter.

Governance of the police service falls to a civilian body comprised of members of municipal Council, citizens of the municipality appointed by either the province or municipality, or a combination thereof.

Duties Knoll and CAPG are responsible for include determining adequate personnel levels, budgeting for the needs of the police service, monitoring the budget, reviewing the performance of the service, hiring and evaluating the Chief of Police, labour relations, discipline and policy development.

Founded in 1989, CAPG has since grown to represent 80 per cent of municipal police service oversight bodies throughout Canada.

Knoll is also Chair of the Oakville Public Library and is also a member of the Oakville Administrative Services Committee and the Halton Health and Social Services Committee.
