Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool that was developed to be an easy-to-write and readable syntax for writing for the web.

Curated supports the Markdown examples below in most free-text fields. The main place it’s used is in the body text of a link or in a text item. However, it can also be used in text item footers, the publication description and publication footer, and various other fields.

Bold

To make the text bold, surround it with two asterisks. This can be an entire paragraph, a sentence, or a single word mid-sentence.

Italic

To make text italic, surround it with one asterisk.

To insert a link, put the text you want to link to in square brackets followed by the URL in parentheses. There should be no space between the two sets of brackets.

Note: Remember to include the http:// part of the URL otherwise the link will not work.

Bulleted List

To create a bulleted list, simply start each line with an asterisk and a space, then the text of the item.

Note: If your list follows any body text, you must leave a line before you start the list otherwise it will not render correctly.

Numbered List

To create a numbered list, start each line with a number followed by a period and a space, then the text of the item.

Note: If your list follows any body text, you must leave a line before you start the list otherwise it will not render correctly.

Blockquote

To define the text in a blockquote, start the first line of the text with > followed by a space.

Strikethrough

To strike through text, surround it with two tildes.

Paragraph Break

To create a paragraph break, ensure you leave a blank line between the paragraphs.

Line Break

To create a line break, leave two spaces at the end of the text you wish to break and then start the following text on the next line.

Note: If you don’t leave the two spaces at the end of the line, the text will continue to wrap on the same line even if you write the text on the next line.
