Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor opened up about working at Apple Music in a Stereogum interview published Friday (Oct. 19).

Reznor originally joined the streaming service Beats Music as the Chief Creative Officer in 2012, becoming an Apple employee after the world-sweeping tech company acquired Beats Electronics in 2014.

“Apple had been one of those companies that I really looked forward to what they were going to present,” said Reznor in the interview. “It’s like Willy Wonka. I thought Steve Jobs was a genius and he brought things to the world that I think made significant changes and I looked forward to what was ahead.”

Reznor furthermore explained that he didn’t want to always wonder what would have happened if he hadn’t taken the opportunity to work with Apple, so he jumped onto the team in-between record cycles.

“It was an eye-opening, incredible amount of work to be dropped into the world of engineers who didn’t want you there,” Reznor said. He constantly felt people were questioning why he had any business being part of the company.
