The Gogo 5G network is set to take flight north of the border. The company announced that AirSprint Private Aviation will fit its business jet fleet with the updated systems, including options to add satellite connectivity on some aircraft.
AirSprint’s selection of Gogo 5G reinforces the value of ATG connectivity for aircraft flying in North America that demand exceptional speeds.
– Sergio Aguirre, president and chief operating officer of Gogo
The deal calls for AirSprint’s Cessna Citation CJ3+ and Embraer aircraft – approximately 30 combined in the fleet – to be fitted with the newer air-to-ground connectivity hardware. The 13 Embraer jets are also covered by options to add Gogo Galileo HDX, the LEO satellite-based solution expected to launch late next year. Gogo Galileo connects to the OneWeb satellite constellation using a terminal from Hughes.
AirSpirit is the first Canadian customer to commit to the Gogo 5G offering. Implementation of the Gogo 5G network in Canada is ongoing, with completion expected in 2024. Of note, Gogo retains its monopoly on ATG connectivity options in Canada, while it faces competition from SmartSky in the US market.
