Bentley unveils self-driving concept car that will tell if you're in a bad mood and feed you
Bentley has unveiled its first self-driving concept car, which will be able to tell if you are in a bad mood and deliver food to cheer you up.
The EXP 100 GT, revealed as part of Bentley’s centenary celebrations, is designed to show how the company envisions luxury motoring will look and feel in 2035.
Its futuristic features are based on technology Bentley is already working on or expects to be ready in a decade and a half.
On the outside, the all-electric, zero-emission car looks like a classic sleek grand tourer, except for an eye-catching 6,000 LED light grille, which changes colour to tell passersby when the car is self-driving or under human control.
Inside, it will have an advanced AI assistant capable of sensing the driver’s 'biometric mood' by monitoring cues such as blood pressure and head gestures. It will then adjust the driving-style, ambiance, lighting and even scent in the car to suit the driver’s temperament.
Alongside this, the EXP 100 will dispense cartridges filled with snacks, purified water, travel items and clean clothes, from under the bonnet with a simple hand gesture. It is envisioned that these cartridges will be delivered to the car through a Bentley ‘concierge’ service.
Bentley has made the car semi-autonomous as it is keen to preserve the joy of motoring in the coming driverless revolution. As such, owners of the EXP 100 GT will be able to take the wheel or allow it to recede into the dashboard as the car takes them to their destination.
Stefan Sielaff, Bentley Director of Design, said: “The Bentley EXP 100 GT represents the kind of cars we want to make in the future. Like those iconic Bentleys of the past, this car connects with its passengers’ emotions and helps them experience and safeguard the memories of the really extraordinary journeys they take.”
The EXP 100 will also be fitted with cameras on the exterior to record picturesque or memorable journeys, which can then be replayed on the smart glass in the windows. Bentley says this ‘cocoon’ setting will enable drivers to relive the Mediterranean vistas they enjoyed on an Amalfi Coast holiday while making a dreary urban commute in autonomous mode.
Among the other modern conveniences promised, are OLED computer screens in the doors for playing movies or browsing the web and tyres that change their tread so adapt to weather conditions.
By the time the EXP 100 is released Bentley expects electric driving technology to allow it to do 0-60mph in under 2.5 seconds and have a top speed of 186mph. It’s battery is expected to have a range of 435 miles and charge to 80 percent in 15 minutes.
