Today, I encountered a disheartening situation involving four of my friends who received contract job offers as “Data Analysts” from leading banks and insurance companies. Shockingly, the offered hourly rates were $19, $20, $20 and $21. These contracts are from Canada’s Top 10 prominent agencies. These wages are lower than what many earn in survival jobs, such as those in restaurants or warehouses. My intuition suggests that big companies like banks and insurance companies themselves likely offer better pay. Could it be that the agencies are taking a higher margin, or are the big companies genuinely offering such low rates? I would appreciate your insights on this matter. Let's brainstorm.

I'm curious to hear others' experiences with visibility into white box test coverage. In my opinion, understanding what is tested and what isn't by unit and integration tests is extremely valuable for QA. Having transparency into an application's white box test coverage provides several key benefits: It highlights risk areas that need more thorough testing by QA, as they lack sufficient unit/integration test coverage. It surfaces areas that have already been well-tested by developers, allowing QA to focus efforts elsewhere. It enables QA to ensure all code paths and edge cases are comprehensively tested between white and black box tests. It helps find security vulnerabilities in the codebase that white box tests may have missed. While white box tests catch many bugs early, they can still miss things. Knowing their coverage ensures QA can properly validate quality before release. So I'm curious, what has been your experience with visibility into your projects' white box test coverage? I see we've hit the top of "Selenium and WedDriver are crap and you're awful if you still use it" cycle again... and I despair. Either people are saying these things to get clicks since social algorithms promote controversy or they don't understand how these tools or browsers work. And I can't tell the difference. What I think people should be doing is looking at how they test their software. * Should we do everything in E2E tests? God no.... * Should we do everything in Unit Tests or Integration tests? God no... but there should be more E2E tests I can guarantee if you were to rewrite your test suite from scratch from Selenium to Selenium since your flakiness is nothing to do with the framework. It has more to do with your thinking through of how to test. I wrote about this before... Next time you see some putting hate on ANY framework ignore them, don't engage. They're showing they're other "karma" fishing or don't know the space. A rising tide lifts all ships... If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far go together. https://lnkd.in/e4HYxZNy

When I first heard the term "Quality Engineer" getting popular a couple years ago, I was a bit skeptical. I know my Canadian friends do not like the term "engineer" for those of us in software development. And I'm hesitant to label anyone so that they sound like they're "in charge" of quality. I was persuaded to embrace the term by João Proença in his talk at ATD USA about it. And this post from Katja Obring also makes a great case for it. https://lnkd.in/eZP4XVKF I do think this is a big part of our future as testing specialists. (and hello, Alan Page and Brent Jensen, I like your "testing coach" term, and personally, I also like "testing consultant"). When I introduce myself, I still say I'm a tester by trade. And, I do think we need a term that conveys the huge contributions QEs/testing coaches/testing consultants/quality advocates make to their organizations. #HolisticTesting #AgileTesting

Only four weeks until the #Testingmind Test Automation Summit in Vancouver; there will be some great speakers. I am looking forward to hearing Tariq King talk about generative #AI - the AI field has lots of pretenders, but Tariq has deep knowledge; he is a real expert. I will be speaking as well, asking 'Have You Shifted All The Way Left?'. When we shift all the way left we can consistently deliver test automation to the developers in-sprint - before the developers finish writing the code. When we do that, we can effectively drive defects to zero. I will explain how to do it using Specification by Example/BDD, and give examples of companies that have. #BDD
